| New-born Toynbee? March 25, 2011 |
Can you imagine how surprized I was to see THIS? I'm pretty sure that this is new, or recently uncovered. I don't know if I'm allowed to say exactly where this is located? I do know that I was shocked to see it in a place that I have passed-by many times before. I have waited for the 505 NJ Transit bus within feet of this spot before also. It stuck-out like a sore thumb to me, so I'd have to guess that it has only been visible for a few days-if that.
It looks-like the real thing to me, like one-of the originally-placed tiles, not the imitators, so I feel very fortunate to have found this. I am not an expert of course, and I'm not sure if I have ever seen one in person before, but I have studied them online and it was like seeing an original Monet, or Warhol, or other recognizable artist's work for the first time, in a museum. Except that this was embedded into the ground!
Unlike what I have heard about Tiles in Philadelphia, this one is in a fairly busy place, but it is in a fire-lane/bus-stop, (The NJ Transit 505 rides-over it many times, daily), so it doesn't get a lot of vehicle-traffic upon the surface of the Tile.
Below is a larger view of the area. I took these photos on my cell-phone camera at about 4pm in the afternoon on March 25, 2011. I have not read the entire message yet.
